Top Secret/SCI Access Granted and Revoked with the Stroke of a Pen
We have all read the countless stories posted on this blog site about the interminably lengthy process that some have gone through in processing their background investigations and getting their Top-Secret (TS) clearance abd Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access process. Sometimes this process even involves polygraphs. Want to know how to by-pass it all and instantaneously get eligibility? Be on the White House Counsel list of personnel supporting the Executive Office of the President.
Citing a backlog in security clearance processing that would keep appointed employees from being able to perform their duties, President Trump signed the “Memorandum to Resolve the Backlog of Security Clearances for Executive Office of the President Personnel” and issued the White House Counsel and Chief Security Officer instructions to immediately grant interim TS/SCI eligibility to all the personnel on the list, not to exceed six months. They still are required to go through the Federal Bureau of Investigation background investigation process, and the White House Counsel has the authority to revoke eligibility as needed.
Another order signed by the President directs the Director of National Intelligence and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency to revoke the security clearances of 51 individuals who signed a letter discrediting a report about former President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, indicating he had abandoned his laptop at a business that repaired computers. The signatories on the letter attributed the story about the laptop to Russian disinformation efforts.
Just a friendly reminder that the 535 members of the U.S. Congress don’t require clearances at all. No background investigation, no adjudication, nothing. A Congressman could even sit on the HPSCI and date a Chinese spy, for example. Welcome to the way things are.
